The Monkey Says: Number Ten
still in disbelief
i stared
i told him i felt as though i know him so well
he paused from typing, looked at me with a smile and asked me, how so
the conversations we share before evening naps, on supper nights while waiting for the ramlee burger lady to drench his burger with mayonnaise, on morning walks to college
if we roll the mornings afternoons and nights spent together, we would have had a hundred dates. it's pretty ironic how we've not actually been on one.
he'd say "this is like our first date" whenever it's just the both of us, walking in a shopping mall
even if it's only from the parking lot to where we're meeting our friends
even if it's for half an hour
even if it's to catch a midnight movie
it is how he pushes my buttons, laughs hysterically and then proceeds to smother me in kisses
how he snores almost instantly after he falls asleep, and entertains me after with his sleep-talking ways
how he makes the best breakfasts,
that he becomes this perfectly imperfect boy
last night, while he was in the shower, while i was speed writing on post-it notes
lingering in my head is one line i hesitated, one i did not have the guts to write
as i filled all 30 post-it notes with random lines, he found one that was unintentionally empty
he laughed at me as i whined at how it was all from the rush
now, however, i think it was meant for that cliche line i did not write
but here it is
number 10, you complete me.
